Rorschach Hat

So I thought I'd start this blog to display my work and to let other straight guys know that it is okay to knit. I've gotten some funny looks since I knit on my lunch hour at work. You either get "wow! I think that is great" or a puzzled look while they unconsciously start to back up. (I hope it's not catching). Knitting has been a great creative outlet and a way for me to relax. With five kids, believe me you need to find a way to relax.

I call my current project the Rorschach Hat because I started about three different patterns on it with varying degrees of success. Being a new knitter and never having done a fair isle pattern I thought I'd give it a try. I mean how hard could it be? Just follow the pattern........ I tend to take on projects beyond my ability level because I still haven't figured out what that is yet. So I started at the bottom with a snow flake design from "The big book of knitting" by Katharina Buss. It was not turning out so well even after I frogged the @#%&@! thing out three times. So on the fourth failed attempt it turned in a free style border of sorts. Then I charted a fish pattern out from a northwest Indian design and that turned out okay, as long as you don't look too hard. The tail is messed up, it dips into the "not snowflake" border below. But I got tried of frogging it out and just pressed on. It's my first fair isle for crying out loud! So then I thought since I had more space to fill before I began to decrease I'd do another Indian pattern and that turned out better. So, to me it looks a little like a pattern from the rorschach test. However, it's my first fair isle so I'll wear it. It's kind of like when you cook something that isn't that great but, you eat it any way cus you made it and you're hungry. Yeah its kind like that. By the way, it's made of Moda superwash wool so it will be warm.
